Working for a domestic violence free society

E-mail Print PDF

At NAFODU, we aim at achieving a society in which people's rights are observed at all levels starting from the family, community and the country as a whole bringing together all groups of people regardless of religion, political party, levels of education, rich or poor, gender and all sorts of social stratification. We look forward to achieve communities in which women are nolonger beaten by their husbands like cows, the girl child being denied of her rights to education, inheritance of property and alike, children being misreated, the marginalised groups of people like the Batwa in SouthWestern Uganda,People living with disablities and HIV,PWD the elderly being deprived of their property. We believe in this success in partinership with the government of Uganda since we have a common goal of restoring peace and security of every citizen of Uganda our sloganbeing,POWER BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE.

This is why we take the initiative to sensitise and educate people of their rights by organising conferences, roundtable discussions separating men and women at times, government bodies like thje police addressing them on the steps of achieving a corrupt free society, and basically addresing the rural people about their rights because we discovered that its out of ignorance that most Ugandans suffer and as it is believed,'Ignorance of the law is no excuse'. A point in case is that a big number of people especially the poor in villages have sacrificed their poor daughters' lives when they are raped and their parents end up forcing the rapist to pay a small sum of money for the offence commited or forcing the poor young girl to get married to the rapist. Simply because these unsensitized people do not know such is a police case. NAFODU,National foundation for democracy and human rights in Uganda, we hope for a peaceful corrupt free society.

We strive to ensure that the women are nolonger categorised among the marginalised groups by empowering them and sensitising them about their constitutional rights. We empower them to go beyond "ACCESS" to resources that belong to them but rather control them too.
